Brief 5: EOYS Brand Proposal - Research: LCA Degree Show Identities

My initial area of exploration was to research the previous degree shows hosted by Leeds College of Art, this will provide critical insight as to the creative style they have chosen in the past an inform my direction for creating an innovative identity for this years show.

2016: Mader Here

'Made Here' reflects the physical nature of the courses at Leeds College of Art through handmade, three-dimensional shapes that have been produced on a large scale to emphasise the hard work that goes into the work produced. The stacked construction of these shapes represents each student building towards their career ambitions; whilst the stacked composition reflects the institutions diversity. The Made Here branding is particularly engaging to my practice as I tend to focus around form, colour, and shape. I was engaged by this concept and execution that has a quirky aesthetic that is individual and engaging not only to the creative community but also engages the general public appropriately.

2016: Make or Break (Concept)

Exploring alternative concepts to the successful Made Here Identity, the Make or Break concept utilises a playful experimentation of type and its productions hints at the fragility of the creative process. Creating plaster casts of the letter forms in the College's sculpture studio allowed for the project to start to showcase LCA's multidisciplinary facilities and create a more authentic resolutions as opposed to digitally rendering this. The full project is holistically developed and translates seamlessly from print to screen outputs, I feel this as a concept is more successful and exciting than the chosen Made Here identity however isn't as polished within its nature.

2011: We are what we do

The 2011 End of year show inspired me through its tone of voice and creative application. The Concept focuses around every characteristic needed to be creative and all of the unseen elements that go into the design process. The concept is relevant and humorous to the students while engaging the target audience appropriately. The series extensions flawlessly convey the students personality within a type centred resolutions which doesn't feel boring or a lack of imagery, it remains captivating across the breadth of collateral creating a strong identity for the 2011 shows.
