Setting aside two full days to produce all of the posters we decided to digitally print the boarder onto stock as on the a3 posters this would have been two small to fit through the the screen and as the brief is live the audience needs to able to read the information clearly, particularly the date, address and time which we didn't feel we could reproduce consistently.
A2 Poster
Colour 1 - Red
Colour 2 - Yellow / Black
We initially planned to produce the a2 poster as a red background with yellow pattern however we chose to produce a block colour background as opposed to cutting the shapes out of the red as we felt it would be easier to align the colours and didn't assume the yellow would be as opaque as it turned out in print. To later to change this when printing we chose to change the yellow to a black which initially we were resistant towards however the final effect is particularly effective.
A3 Posters
Colour 1 - Yellow
Colour 2 - Red
Unlike the A2 poster we wanted to use the brands colour however as the yellow was lighter than the red this worked effectively using two pulls of the screen to ensure the red translated vibrantly onto the page. The client told us his favourite design was this design in the brands colours therefore we chose to print more of these as they most accurately reflected the store.
Colour 1 - Green
Colour 2 - Pink
As most of the colour schemes used within the campaign are very bold and high impact we wanted to produce a pattern that explored a pastel palette, this pattern might be more appealing to a female audience and expands on the prescribed concept exploring different ways to explore the combination of letterforms.
Colour 1 - Orange
Colour 2 - Blue
The third poster design demonstrates the breadth of the concept creating three distinct and eye catching designs that are all representative of a singular concept. With all four edges of the design overlapping it was particularly difficult to align this design accurately with resulted in a higher tolerance of wasted prints.
Tote Bags
Colour 1 - Black
Colour - 2 Yellow
Colour 3 - Red
The tote bags were by far the hardest element to produce working with fabric screens which flooded more frequently. I screen printed the text which was difficult due to its small scale this resulted in a few being unusable due to the screen flooding. Rowan printed the rest of the designs as she is a better printer and we only had 10 bags to use. We originally planned to produce the tote bag with a red background and yellow pattern however seeing how the a2 poster didn't work we inverted this to ensure a bold finish.
Evaluation
Me and rowan worked extremely well together screen printing, the process was a lot smoother using two people to print instead of doing this individually to lighten the work load, We were happy with the final results, due to the nature of the production method the results were never going to be 100% otherwise we may as well have digitally printed then, However these imperfections ensure each design is unique and is more personable. Screen printing works well to represent the culture of the record store and lends itself particularly well to vinyl culture.
