The final submission for the Up Yer Sleeve exhibition is appropriate to the context of the brief. The output re-interperets the classic funk-soul track into limited edition artwork that is contextually appropriate to the context of the track and will engage the target audience of the exhibition. The concept of the piece takes from the meaning of the song in which it takes 100 days and 100 nights for a man to confess his love, this is innovatively re-imagined within an continuous line drawing that abstractly references the difficulty in articulating the thoughts of the head and heart. The abstract direction of the illustration is further appropriated by the subject in so far as the song talks about the difficulty of love as an abstract concept. The colour palette is strong and bold to reflect the funk nature of the track and reinforce the power within Sharon Jones voice, this creates a strong resolution that will appropriately sit within the exhibition to engage the target audience while contextually referencing the track.
